Elder Scrolls Arena Mac Download:

I actually play Elder Scrolls Arena and Daggerfall on a regular basis, although the graphics have long been surpassed, the game-play is timeless. Playing these games on modern hardware however, and Macs in particular can be quite a challenge.

The excellent DOSBOX makes this possible, but needs you to engage your little grey brain cells for a short period of time. (Mount this, Mount that and add a c: Tild backslash and some other stuff).
For Mac users it's a little harder as Bethesda supply the download that needs a Windows machine to run the Install program. (Seems to just extract the required files and nothing else)

To that end, I've created a single executable file that you just need to click to run the game. Nothing else!!

The zip file contains an executable that runs on a Mac with just a single click and the official Manual in PDF format. (Nothing else to download, couldn't be easier) The Elder Scolls Arena download link below.

    Could you do the same for Daggerfall? I'm almost done with Arena (if that is even possible, considering the immense size of the map). I want to do Daggerfall as wel, but i dont want to do the whole DOSbox thingy...

    Added a Daggerfall link, will add a separate post for it at a later date.

    It will start in Fullscreen mode as there seems to be an issue with the mouse cursor in windowed mode (Reported on DosBox forums so is a known bug)

    To get back to windowed mode, 'ALT + Enter'

    Plz shout if you have any issues.

    To save use 'ESC' then 'Save Game' button.

    If you are trying to save in the starter dungeon, 'Privateer's Hold' it can be quite hard as it's know bug with Daggerfall.

    You will get a message similar to 'daggerfall has encountered an internal error at 1000'

    Once you're out, it should save just fine.

    Sorry about that Guys, the bandwidth has been OK for ages, I do keep an eye on it from time time time, and generally have more than enough for a month.

    I think recently the page has become a lot more popular with Google, and has blown my allowance half way through.

    Will look to get more bandwidth, plz bear with me.

    Is there any way to change the key layout? Going control + F1 doesn't bring up the DOSBOX menu to change controls, maybe because this is for Mac (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/564545-the-elder-scrolls-arena/64093108).

    Won't work. It downloaded, but when I try to open it a window pops up saying that it can't open because it is from an unidentified developer.

    Its a new feature of GateKeeper since Mountain lion.

    Right-click (or control-click) the application and choose "Open"
    Then 'Open'

    It's perfectly safe

    Just downloaded this. Seemed to be working fine until I got to the end of the first dungeon. At this point it went black and on screen it said:

    ARENA V1.06 complete.
    C:\>

    Anyway to fix this? Sorry if I'm being stupid. I'm not the best with computers...

    Hi,

    I've just tried it and it works fine, i'e allows you to leave the dungeon and enter the first Town.. However does drop to DOS as you mention if you get the question wrong.

    You will see no cursor, so will have to just type the answer and trust it will enter on screen. The Answers are the cost of spells, which are random from the Manual that came with the game (Copy protection)

    For me it asked the cost of 'Wizard's Fire', I entered 187 and it let me through.

    A copy of the Manual, with the answers are stored in PDF format inside the Executable.

    Right click on the Icon -> Show package contents

    You will see the manual call Instructions.pdf

    Click the button that has the crossed swords, that goes into combat mode. Then click and hold the right mouse button and then move the mouse from side to side in a swiping motion.

    When you start you are given a sword, you can go into inventory (click on portrait), then next page, and then double click the sword to equip.

    I don't know of any bugs that will prevent you from attacking I'm afraid.
